What is Pianoforall?
Pianoforall was created by Robin Hall, who says he has more than 30 years of experience teaching piano. Instead of starting with note reading and scales, the course teaches chord patterns and rhythms first, so beginners can accompany songs within the first lessons, then moves on to ballads, blues, jazz, improvisation and finally reading music and classical pieces.
What's inside
- 10 lesson books that build on each other, with the videos and audio examples embedded right in the lesson.
- An online academy that keeps lessons in order and saves your progress.
- Offline use: the books can be downloaded, which is handy on a tablet at the piano.
- Direct help: the author lists his own email for students who get stuck.
Why it suits older learners
Playing music is a pleasant way to keep the mind busy and the fingers nimble. The chord-first approach gives quick, motivating results, and you can pause, replay and go at your own pace without the pressure of weekly lessons. You need a piano or a keyboard; a basic 61- or 88-key digital keyboard with weighted keys is a good, affordable start.
